Google adsense integration
2023 | UX & UI Design, end-to-end flows, interface design.
I led the redesign and full rebuild of the Google AdSense app at Wix, enabling website owners to monetize their sites through ad placements.
The existing product was problematic: installation was complex, technical issues were common, and much of the setup and ad management happened outside Wix in Google’s platform. Users had to switch between systems, manually add code, and had little visibility into whether their site was approved to display ads.
I led a complete rebuild of the experience. Beyond redesigning the UX and UI, we rebuilt the product using Google’s new API, introducing a native back office within Wix and a fully integrated editor experience. This turned a fragmented and technical flow into a simple, clear product that users can manage entirely inside Wix.
The Challenge
& Exploration
The main challenge was reducing friction in a flow that was both technical and fragmented.
Users needed to complete setup across two platforms, without clear guidance or feedback along the way.
I analyzed user feedback, support tickets, and the existing flow to understand where users were getting stuck.
Two main issues stood out: the technical barrier of adding code manually, and the lack of visibility into approval status. Users often didn’t know if they were still in progress, approved, or needed to take action.
The goal was to simplify the setup, remove technical steps where possible, and give users clear feedback throughout the process.
No clear visibility into approval status or progress.
A highly technical setup that required manual code installation.
The Solution
I redesigned the experience to be fully managed inside Wix, removing the need to switch to Google’s platform.
The new flow eliminates manual code installation and replaces it with a guided setup process. Users can now connect their account, complete setup, and manage their ads directly within Wix.
I also introduced a clear status system that shows users exactly where they stand: whether their site is under review, approved, or requires action.
In addition, I designed a new back office where users can manage their AdSense integration, and an editor experience that allows them to place and control ads directly on their site.
A new first-time onboarding experience that clearly shows users their status at every step
A newly introduced back office experience for creating and managing ad units
A back office view where users can see all created ad units and manage them easily
An improved editor experience that allows users to easily create and place ads directly on their site.
Impact & Learnings
The rebuilt experience improved installation success rates and reduced support requests, turning a complex flow into a simple and user-friendly product. By simplifying setup, adding clear status visibility, and enabling full management within Wix, we significantly improved the overall experience.
